Quality services to all children with disabilities.

About Ithemba

ITHEMBA Communities Uganda is a community-based Non-Profit organization, a Sanctuary for children with disabilities offering a range of services to suit the unique needs of children living with intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities, as well as traumatic brain injury. We are based in Kampala-Uganda, East Africa.

ITHEMBA is driven by HOPE to invent therapy in a contemporary world where children with Disabilities, present themselves with cases requiring extensive research to meet their specific needs.

The urge to provide detailed holistic services, ITHEMBA combined the needs of the children and those of their families to tailor its programme to include Speech, swallowing, & feeding therapy, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Music therapy, Inclusive (special needs) Education, Aqua therapy, as well as counselling for parents and care givers, sectioned into day, shared & supported living, intended for inclusion in homes, community, and vacation trips to expose them with children having similar conditions to benchmark on how to live better.

The organization was inspired in 2019 by Ms. Jackie, a mother of an Autistic child and Ms. Ruth an ECD specialist, Philanthropist and entrepreneur. Having the zeal to provide quality services to all children with Disabilities, the organization has since
grown organically and still growing in both direct/contact children and those under the shared and supported services program.

The duo is passionate about:

  1. Service provision with vivid frequency and able to be replicated by both clients, staff and community/home participants using locally available material.
  2. Professionally attending to all children with disabilities to enrich their lives, and enable them live their lives to the fullest, to achieve this working in dynamic teams.
  3. Inclusiveness to bridge families so as to accept all children regardless of their condition, round stigma, readily participate in family/community activities, in nondiscriminatory way.

ITHEMBA as a community based organization serves both local clients in its area of operation, and those with in the East African community including South Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, and Eritrea.

Testimonials

Am so grateful to God that I got chance to work with ITHEMBA Communities Uganda.
Before I joined this organization in the mid o April, I never knew anything concerning children with autism and cerebral palsy, but ever since I started working with ITHEMBA Communities Uganda, I have learnt that these children with autism have talent just like any other person so I have to give them time because with the little with the little time i have interacted with them, I have learnt they can learn also just like any other person. From what I have heard from their different teachers or therapist at this organization is that when you are patient with the children, they can learn from you as long as you give them time and keep on repeating what you want them to learn.
